The New Englis Premier League Season

The new English Premier League season has kicked off and as you would expect, the main protagonists have started much as the left off last season.
The usual suspects, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and of course pretenders Man City who have spent more millions than any other club in the league all won their matches, none more impressive than Arsenal who crushed Everton at goodison park by 6 goals to 1. Man City were also impressive winning away 2-0 at Blackburn.
Spare a thought for Liverpool, many people's choice to win the premier league this season, they lost 2-1 to Spurs at white heart lane.
So, the season has started finally and we are in for a thrilling race leading to the world cup in South Africa in 2010.
Early days yet, but let's see what the season brings.

Has Man Utd Already Lost The League Title?

That Michael Owen has signed a two year contract with the champions is a very big shock to me. In jury prone Owen? You know, the most difficult thing for me to believe is the fact that Man Utd let Tevez, a world class striker go when we all saw what the guy can do.
I just wonder how next season will be like, if Man Utd will be as competitive as the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool,Arsenal and don't forget Man City.
God save UNITED.

Confederations Cup Final,Brazil Is Brazil !!

Did you ever think that the USA would play in the final of the confederations cup? or did you think they would beat Egypt or that they would drop Spain by two unreplied goals or did you think they would lead Brazil by two goals by half-time? If i have to answer any of the questions above, my answer would be a resounding no.
But the Americans have done very well in this confederations cup, beating Egypt and then thrashing Spain. They started quite well against the Brazilians and led by two goals at half-time, but then we all know Brazilians and what they can do. They fought back and won the game by 3 goals to 2.
Quite bitter for me to swallow is the fact that a little bit of hope for a change at the pecking order in world football. Would it not be nice for a lesser know footballing nation to win a major football tournament? I really feel for the Americans because they played very well in the first half, but really capitulated in the second.
Well, i have enjoyed every bit of the tournament and as it comes to an end, let's stay with memory of a fine display by South Africa, Egypt, USA and of course Spain's disappointing display.
Talking of Spain, they were really a shadow of the team that won the last European championships.
So what do you think, are we going to see a major upset at next year's world cup? Your views.

Late strike fires Brazil into final

An 87th-minute free-kick from defender Daniel Alves sends Brazil into the Confederations Cup final and leaves hosts South Africa heartbroken. But in all fairness, the South Africans took the game to the Brazilians, their work rate was first class and the really did not deserve to lose the game.
But i did say in the earlier post that the Africans would play very well, but their attack was blunt in their earlier matches. They really impress me today with the way they played. But boy, football could be cruel sometimes.
